Philippines Team A bags overall title in BIMP-EAGA Friendship Games

PHILIPPINES Team A claimed the overall title in the 11th BIMP-EAGA Friendship Games, which ended on Thursday in Puerto Princesa City.

Philippines Team A collected 30 golds, 37 silvers, and 32 bronze medals to capture the overall crown against local and foreign rivals in the multisport competition. It was Philippines Team A’s second overall title.

Philip Sahagun, a swimmer from La Salle, made the biggest mark for Philippines Team A after winning five gold medals, sweeping all of his events – the boys’ 200m individual medley, 4x100m freestyle and medley relays, and the 200m and 100m backstroke.

Trackster Milchay Moreno and swimmer Larah Micah Amoguis also starred for Philippines Team A by winning two golds and one silver, while taekwondo jin Jamie Danielle Nirza bagged a gold and a silver.

Malaysia Team B finished second with 17-16-17, followed by Indonesia with 14-8-5.

Philippines Team E took the fourth spot with the delegation being led by the University of the Philippines swimmer Quendy Fernandez, who won five gold medals in the competition, ruling the girls’ 50m, 100m, and 200m backstroke, and the 4x50 200m medley and freestyle relays.

Philippines Team B placed fifth with 6-6-10, followed by Malaysia Team A at sixth with 2-3-2, Philippines Team D at seventh with 1-2-10, Brunei Darussalam at eighth with 1-2-8, and Philippines Team C at ninth with 1-2-1.

Friendship Games

The competition is a friendship games between Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, a by-product of the initiative of the four countries to spur economic growth and cooperation in the area.

It currently holds eight disciplines in aquatics (swimming), athletics, archery, badminton, esports, karate, pencak silat, and sepak takraw.
