Rodriguez wins three poomsae golds in Batang Pinoy Mindanao leg

PAUL Anthony Rodriguez claimed three gold medals in the taekwondo competitions of the 2019 Batang Pinoy Mindanao leg at the Gaisano Mall in Tagum City.

The 13-year-old Rodriguez, carrying the General Santos City team in this competition, claimed the junior individual, junior pair, and junior team poomsae events to rake the gold medals on Tuesday.

“My dream is to compete in the Olympics someday,” said Rodriguez, a Grade 7 student from Holy Trinity College in General Santos City and already a member of the national juniors team.

Rodriguez scored 7.815 points in the junior individual, beating Clint Solitana of Malita (7.335), and Daniel Abella of Cagayan de Oro (7.130).

He teamed up with Aleya Rayzel Labao in the junior pair to win the gold with a score of 8.020, edging General Santos City teammate Ezekiel Limin and Aliyah Baquial (7.550), and Abella and Kyle Canios of Cagayan de Oro (7.485).

Rodriguez, Limpin, and Benedict Apao took the junior team gold with a score of 7.685 points, beating Maguindanao (7.400) and Davao Del Norte (7.350) in the competition organized by the Philippine Sports Commission, and backed by STI College-Tagum and Alfalink Total Solutions.
