THE Philippine chess team won three gold medals on Wednesday, hiking the country’s total gold haul to five in the 2018 Asian Para Games in Indonesia.
Sander Severino clinched a double in the P1 at the GOR Cempaka Putih in Jakarta, claiming the individual title while leading Jasper Rom and Henry Roger Lopez to victory in the team standard.
The team of Redor Menandro, Arman Subaste, and Israel Peligro took the third gold medal of the day in chess for the Philippines, ruling the men’s team standard VI B2/B3.
The chess team also collected a silver and two bronze medals.
That brought the medal haul of the Philippines to 5-6-6 gold-silver-bronze, moving to 10th spot at posting time.
Menandro won the silver medal in the individual standard VI B2/B3, while Rom and Subaste grabbed the bronze medals in the individual standard P1 and individual standard VI B2/B3.
