Philippine chessers dominate to take gold in Asean Para Games in Singapore

THE Philippines bagged another gold medal in the 8th Asean Para Games through its men's rapid P1 team on Tuesday at the OCBC Arena Hall 4 in Singapore.

Sander Severino combined with Davao's Henry Lopez and James Infiesto to bag the gold to add to Ernie Gawilan's victory in the 400-meter freestyle in swimming earlier this week.

Severino led all scorers with five points while Lopez and Infiesto finished with four points each to finish third and fourth, in that order, in the individual rankings.

Azhar Panjaitan of Indonesia finished second with 4.5 points while his teammates Sudirman (5th) and Moechamad Noer Abidin (7th) finished with four each.

Nguyen Van Quan of Vietnam finished sixth with four points and his compatriot Tran Tri Trinh finished 9th with three points.

Malaysia’s trio of Norazlin Bin Juarih (10th), Ahmad Nazmi Bin Md Nizam (11th) and Hasidin Bin Abdul Rashid (12th) wound up with three, three and 2.5 points in that order.
