ANGEL Otom capped her campaign in the 2024 Paralympics with a respectable fifth-place finish in the women’s 50m butterfly S5, the best outing thus far by a Philippine swimmer in the Games.
The 21-year-old Otom clocked at 45.78 seconds in the event to take the No. 5 position, surpassing the sixth-place finish by Ernie Gawilan in the men’s 400m freestyle S7 during the 2020 and 2024 edition.

Otom also placed sixth in the women’s 50m backstroke S7, her first-ever event of her Paralympic career.
Her time in the 50m butterfly S5 final was better than the 46.85 seconds she registered during the heats where she also placed fifth overall among the finalists.
China dominates
