JOSEPHINE Medina is on the verge of competing in her third Paralympic Games in Tokyo next year.

Philippine Paralympic Committee official Kiko Diaz said Medina was given an outright alternate invitation by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) via the bipartite agreement.

“We formally confirmed our intention to get that slot for her,” said Diaz.

Diaz said the ITTF will then coordinate with the Tokyo Paralympic Games accreditation committee to facilitate the process and make the berth official for Medina.

Once the spot is official, Medina will become the second Filipino to make it to the Tokyo Paralympic Games after swimmer Ernie Gawilan. The Tokyo Paralympics has also been moved to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The table tennis player is looking to repeat - if not better - her bronze-medal finish in the women’s singles TT8 event during the last Paralympic Games in Rio De Janeiro in 2016.
