ERNIE Gawilan captured his second gold medal on Wednesday night in the 2018 Asian Para Games para swimming competitions at the GBK Aquatic Center in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Gawilan checked in at the same time with Ejima Daisuke of Japan as both won the gold in the men’s 100-meter backstroke with a clocking of one minute, 19.90 seconds. Toh Wei Soong of Singapore claimed the bronze with a time of 1:20.21.
It was Gawilan’s second gold medal in the Asian Para Games, following up on his victory in the men’s 200-meter individual medley SM7.
With Gawilan’s victory, the Philippines improved its tally to 6-6-6 (gold-silver-bronze) to take 11th place in the medal standings.
Aside from Gawilan, the Philippine chess team took three gold medals on a prolific Wednesday for the delegation.
