ERNIE Gawilan failed to reach the finals of the men’s 100m backstroke-S7 after finishing last in the second heat in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games at the Tokyo Aquatics Center on Monday morning.
Gawilan clocked one minute, 21.60 seconds, finishing 12.48 seconds behind Heat 2 winner Pipo Carlomagno of Argentina.
The 30-year-old placed 10th overall, last among the swimmers who competed in the day. Christian Sadie of South Africa, the 11th competitor, didn’t start the race.
The men’s 100m backstroke was Gawilan’s final event in the Paralympic Games where he reached the finals in his pet event, the men’s 400m freestyle-S7, placing sixth overall.
Carlomagno, Andrii Trusov of Ukraine, Andrei Gladkov of Russia Olympic Committee, Mark Malyar of Israel, Federico Bicelli of Italy, Yevhenli Bohodaiko of Ukraine, Lucas Nicolas Poggi of Argentina, and Inaki Basiloff of Argentina are the finalists in the men’s 100m backstroke-S7.
