CENDY Asusano wrapped up Team Philippines’ campaign in the 2024 Paralympics with a fourth-place finish in the women’s javelin throw F54 at the Stade De France.

She finished fourth with a throw of 15.05 meters, setting a personal best in the process in the last seven of the Philippines in the quadrennial event.

Asusano, who won two gold medals in last year’s ASEAN Para Games in Cambodia, hit the mark on her first attempt of her debut Paralympic Games.

Nurkhon Kurbanova of Uzbekistan set a new world record by hitting 21.12 meters for the gold, with Flora Ugwunwa of Nigeria captured the silver with 19.26 meters. Elham Salehi of Iran got the bronze with 16.24 meters.

Asusano closed the Philippines campaign where swimmers Angel Otom and Ernie Gawilan, wheelchair racer Jerrold Mangliwan, archer Agustina Bantiloc, and taekwondo jin Allain Ganapin also competed.

The Philippines went home without a medal.

Otom competed in two events including in the women’s 50m butterfly S5 where she finished fifth.

The 21-year-old also reached the finals of the women’s 50m backstroke S5 and placed sixth.

“The fact that Angel made two finals in both of her events in her Paralympic Games debut at that is truly remarkable and bodes well for future appearances for the country in international competitions,” said chef de mission Ral Rosario.
