ANGEL Otom once again qualified for the final of her last event in swimming in the 2024 Paralympic Games at the Paris La Defense Arena.
Otom finished third in Heat 1 of the women’s 50-meter butterfly S5 with a time of 46.85 seconds - good for fifth place overall and a spot in the medal round on Friday.
The final is also scheduled on Friday at 11:58 p.m. Manila time.
Back-to-back finals
The 21-year-old also reached the final of her other event, the women’s 50m backstroke S5, and placed sixth with a time of 44.00 seconds in her first Paralympic Games.
For a podium finish in this event, Otom and the rest of the field must overcome Chinese swimmers Lu Dong and He Shenggao again after they registered the best times in the heats with 40.50 and 43.11 seconds respectively.
They also went 1-2 in the backstroke final.
Sevilay Ozturk of Turkey and Cheng Jiao of China had the next best times with 44.70 and 46.01, respectively.
Meanwhile, Jerrold Mangliwan finished his Paralympic campaign in Paris by finishing sixth in Heat 1 of the men’s 100m T52 with a time of 19.44 seconds and missed a finals berth.
Mangliwan previously finished eighth in the final of the men’s 400m T52, his pet event.
On Saturday, Cendy Asusano will be in action in the women’s javelin throw F54 at the Stade De France.
