ANGEL Otom qualified for the final of the women’s 50m backstroke S5 of the 2024 Paralympic Games swimming at the Paris La Defense Arena on Tuesday.
Otom placed fourth in Heat 1 with a time of 44.03 seconds but enough to advance to the final in her debut Paralympic campaign by being one of the two swimmers who have the best time after the top three finishers in each of the two heats.
Three Chinese swimmers in Lu Dong, He Shenggao, and Liu Yu had the top three times with clockings of 39.48, 41.31, and 42.59 respectively.
The final will be held on Tuesday, 6:33 p.m. local time (Wednesday, 12:33 a.m. Manila time).
After the women’s 50m backstroke, Otom will still see action in the women’s 50m butterfly S5 on Friday.
