PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte is set to attend the opening ceremonies of the 2017 Palarong Pambansa, the Presidential Management Staff confirmed to Department of Education officials.
Duterte will be the guest of honor for Sunday’s opening rites at the Binarayan Sports Complex in San Jose, Antique and will be joined by Education secretary Leonor Magtolis-Briones and Philippine Sports Commission chairman William Ramirez.
Magtolis-Briones hopes that the Palaro will encourage more students to take up Sports Track in senior high school, saying that only 3,175 out of 1.5 million students take the course in the K-12 curriculum.
“It means that sports track is not attracting students such that we are encouraging the parents, as well as students, to take the track which is good track to help them gain employment,” said Magtolis-Briones.
“Mas marami ang tsansa for them na makakuha ng employment after graduation while also giving back to the country,” she added.
