Big City athletes put a lock on overall title with a day to spare in Palaro

BANTAY, Ilocos Sur — National Capital Region has assured itself of the overall title of the 2018 Palarong Pambansa, which comes to a close on Saturday.

With only a handful of medals up for grabs, NCR has already amassed 91 gold, 64 silver, and 47 bronze medals as of early Friday night, assuring first place in the overall championship.

Calabarzon is a far second with a tally of 52 gold, 43 silver, and 63 bronze medals while Western Visayas is in third with 40-41-48.

Basketball and badminton are the only remaining events to be contested on Saturday morning before the closing ceremonies take place in the afternoon at the President Elpidio Quirino Stadium.

Cordillera Administrative Region is in fourth with 25-21-20, followed by Central Visayas with a tally of 23-20-27.

Soccskargen ranked sixth with 21-21-28, followed by Central Luzon (18-21-22), Northern Mindanao (15-18-24), Cagayan Valley (11-8-13), and Davao Region (10-20-22) in that order.

Region 1 (8-10-27), Caraga (8-10-17), Eastern Visayas (8-10-8), Mimaropa (4-11-9), Zamboanga Peninsula (0-8-18), and ARMM (0-0-1) round out the list.
