NESTOR Colonia broke his own Philippine record in the weightlifting competitions of the 2014 Philippine National Games (PNG) in Marikina City.
The Zamboanga native lifted 118kg in the snatch and 153kg in the clean-and-jerk for a total of 271kg in the 56kg division, shattering the old marks he himself set in two different competitions.
Colonia’s lift in the snatch and clean-and-jerk broke the 116kg mark he registered in the 2011 PNG in Bacolod, while the clean-and-jerk total eclipsed the 148kg and 258kg lift he accomplished during the 2011 Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia.
In other results Wednesday, Mervin Guarte of Philippine Air Force won his second gold medal in athletics by ruling the 800m run with a time of one minute, 52.26 seconds.
Jordan Billones of Meralco placed second with 1:53.50, followed by Marco Vilog of De La Salle with 1:53.78.
Danica Llagas of University of the Philippines threw 10.25 meters to capture the junior women’s shotput event.
In swimming, Palarong Pambansa gold medalist Precilla Loren Aquino of La Union claimed the women’s 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:51.64, nearly 12 seconds better than the runner-up finisher.
Roanne Yu of Manila captured the gold in the women’s 50m butterfly with a time of 31.83 seconds, before teaming up with former UAAP Athlete of the Year Luica Dacanay, Andrea Isabelle Beloso, and Monica Padilla in claiming the 200m freestyle with a clocking of 2:04.06.
James Alfon Ellsworth of Malolos City (2:37.33) nipped Skyler Claveria of San Pedro City (2:37.63) to win the closely-contested 200m men’s breaststroke event.
Dennis Orcollo and Warren Kiamco won their preliminary matches in the men’s 9-ball billiards event.
