AFTER winning the gold medal in the 100m run elementary girls of the Palarong Pambansa, Krisha Aguillon, in tears, hugged her mother at trackside of the President Elpidio Quirino Stadium in one of many emotional scenes in last month’s annual event.
Aguillon topped the 100m run with a clocking of 13.04 seconds, winning a close race over Reah Bacani of Cagayan Valley and teammate LG Shaire Baylon of Western Visayas.
It was her first-ever gold in the Palaro and the first person she thanked was her mother.
“Dahil sa mama ko,” said the product of Rizal Elementary School in Bacolod City when asked why was she in tears. ”Kasi nandito siya, supportive kasi siya. Nanonood siya.”
Aguillon was named Athlete of the Year by the Rizal Elementary School, according to a report by The Visayan Daily Star.
Evelyn said she makes an effort to watch her daughter during city and regional meets since she is also part of the delegation as a member of the coaching staff of the Bacolod Tay Tung High School secondary girls volleyball team.
“Sinasamahan ko lagi siya. Tamang tama naman kasi coach din ako ng volleyball sa regional. Nandoon din ako.”
Evelyn makes an effort to be at her daughter’s competitions, and she is glad the sacrifices paid off in this year’s Palaro.
“Binibigyan ko siya talaga ng time para puntahan lalo na kapag wala kaming laro,” she said.
“Kahit nasaan siya, nanonood ako,” Evelyn added.
