BANTAY, Ilocos Sur — Jessel Lumapas was named Most Outstanding Athlete in the athletics competitions of the 2018 Palarong Pambansa after winning four gold medals in the meet that ended on Saturday.
Lumapas won the 100m, 200m, 400m and was part of the 4x400m relay champions, getting the top individual award on Friday at the close of the athletics competitions at the President Elpidio Quirino Stadium.
Lumapas said she will continue to train after the Palaro as she now sets her mark at the National Open in Ilagan, Isabela next month.
“Tuloy pa rin ‘yung training kasi may laro pa po kami sa National Open. Lakas pa po ng loob,” said Lumapas.
“Gusto ko po maging national team at makapagtapos ng pag-aaral.”
Calabarzon won the 4x400m run, with Lumapas, Charlaine De Ocampo, Charmaine De Ocampo and Erica Marie Ruto submitting a time of three minutes, 53.97 seconds to break the 3:54.37 mark set by the Calabarzon last year by a team that also included Lumapas.
Lumapas, from Dasmarinas City in Cavite, broke the 400m record, clocking 56.28 seconds to erase the mark of Jenny Rose Rosales of Calabarzon set in 2011.
Lumapas clocked 24.61 seconds in the 200m and 11.99 seconds in the 100m.
