THE last Friday of October was a good day for the Blue Eagles as two Ateneo squads moved into the quarterfinals of the 18th University Games men’s basketball tournament after they disposed of their respective opposition in Bacolod City.
Ateneo-A had a convincing 66-53 win against Rizal Technological University that set up a quarterfinal meeting with UAAP runner-up University of Santo Tomas.
Sister team Ateneo-B also moved into the next phase after their 73-34 rout of University of Negros Occidental Recoletos, and will face West Negros University in the next round.
The Blue Eagles-A will face an undefeated UST team which drew a bye in the quarterfinals courtesy of its perfect win-loss record in the preliminaries.
Also drawing a bye in the quarterfinals are National University and University of Visayas, which beat the Kiefer Ravena-led Ateneo-A in the preliminaries.
University of Saint La Salle-Bacolod edged Ateneo de Davao University, 48-44, and will face NU in the quarterfinals.
