ATENEO sneaked past University of Santo Tomas, 58-56, in overtime on Friday to advance to the semifinals of the University Games men’s basketball competitions in Bacolod City.
Kiefer Ravena led the defending champions with 18 points and buried a key triple in the late stages of overtime to give the Eagles the lead for good, 56-53, in a game as fiercely fought as their recent finals match-up in the UAAP.
Tata Bautista missed a potential game-winning three in the final seconds of the game.
UST was almost at full strength with Karim Abdul, Jeric Teng, and Aljon Mariano suiting up. The Blue Eagles played in the Unigames without Greg Slaughter, Nico Salva, Ryan Buenafe, and Oping Sumalinog.

Adamson meets National University in the other bracket after the Falcons beat Hercor College, 95-51, and the Bulldogs defeated University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, 96-48.
Meanwhile, Far Eastern University captured 23 gold medals to dominate the athletics competition.
In women’s volleyball, De La Salle beat University of the Philippines in straight sets and will face University of Santo Tomas in the semifinals.
Adamson takes on University of Saint La Salle in the other semifinal match.
