ILOCOS SUR — National University guard Cyril Gonzales had mixed feelings over the gold medal win in the Palarong Pambansa basketball tournament, as National Capital Region defeated his home team Davao in the final.

Gonzales played for Holy Child of Davao College from 2014 to 2015 before transferring to Manila to play for the NU Bullpups in the UAAP.

“Kinakabahan ako. Parang may gusto rin ako patunayan na nag-improve ang laro ko,” said Gonzales.

Gonzales had 10 points in the championship game, helping Terrence Fortea and Gerry Abadiano deliver the win for NCR.

The 17-year-old Gonzales said he is very proud of what his former school had accomplished in their Palaro stint that included wins over Central Luzon and Western Visayas in the playoff round.

“Masaya ako para sa kanila. Nung time namin, nakapag-champion kami pero elementary. Pero ngayon, nung nag-high school, hindi kami umabot,” said Gonzales, who spent time with former schoolmates after the championship game.
