SAN JUAN, Ilocos Sur — Calabarzon risks forfeiting its win over Zamboanga after fielding players wearing various jerseys in the Palarong Pambansa basketball competition.
Calabarzon, also known as Southern Tagalog Calabarzon Athletic Association (STCAA) and represented by the San Beda Red Cubs, defeated Zamboanga, 88-52, in their secondary boys basketball match.
But the Cubs wore different jerseys, including kits players had worn in various leagues.
Central Luzon coach Allan Trinidad blasted the technical officials for allowing Calabarzon to play, which he said amounted to treating the 2018 Palarong Pambansa like an “inter-purok” competition.
“Meron bang ganun? ‘Yung uniporme, may Manila. Meron ba namang Calabarzon na Manila ang uniporme mo. May San Beda, may Batang PBA,” said Trinidad.
“Ginawang inter-purok ‘yung Palarong Pambansa,” he added.
Technical officials said the game has been put under review.
“Tournament manager daw may karapatan mag-desisyon. Inoverrule daw ‘yung DepEd,” said Trinidad.
All 17 regions are represented in the competition and were divided into four groups.
The top two in each group will move to the quarterfinals to be played on Thursday. The semifinals will be on Friday, while the championship game is set on Saturday.
