VIGAN, Ilocos Sur — President Rodrigo Duterte is scheduled to attend Sunday’s opening ceremonies of the 2018 Palarong Pambansa at the Quirino Stadium in Bantay, Ilocos Sur, Department of Education secretary Leonor Briones said on Saturday.
The opening rites is scheduled at 3:30 p.m. where Duterte will be the keynote speaker.
Ilocos Sur governor Ryan Luis Singson said Filipino boxing superstar Sen. Manny Pacquiao, and other Filipino sports stars Rafael ‘Paeng’ Nepomuceno of bowling, Hidilyn Diaz of weightlifting, Mansueto ‘Onyok’ Velasco of boxing, Eugene Torre of chess, Eric Buhain of swimming and Gabriel Moreno of archery have also been invited to attend the opening rites.
Around 15,000 athletes, officials and parents are here in the province for annual athletic event.
“We will make sure na hindi po kayo nagkamali sa pagpili sa aming probinsya,” said Ilocos Sur governor Ryan Singson.
A total of 496 medals in the elementary division and 815 medals in the secondary division are at stake in this year’s Palaro.
