Padda thrilled as youngsters Romero, Cruz offer glimmer of hope for Adamson

    Jul 1, 2017

TO say that guest players Rizza Andrea Cruz and Louie Romero impressed Adamson head coach Air Padda in their debut in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference was an understatement.

Although the Lady Falcons bowed to Alyssa Valdez and Creamline, 25-17, 18-25, 25-15, 25-22, on Saturday, Padda was pleased to see the two youngsters play beyond their years and offer a glimmer of hope for the rebuilding UAAP side.

Middle blocker Cruz debuted with nine points while Romero, named the best setter in the 2017 Palarong Pambansa, made all of the team’s 34 excellent sets in a match that took an hour and 11 minutes to finish.

“They make me excited,” said Padda of her two recruits. “That's why I wanted them to play with us because they're the future of Adamson. They just got so much potential.”

The outspoken American mentor was over the moon after seeing the high school players from King’s Montessori stand their ground against some of the country’s best players.

“To be that young and go out there and not be scared? They're playing pros and you couldn't tell on their faces,” she said.

“Interestingly, they made the least errors on our team. I'm just so excited for them. They're gonna be the ones to watch for sure,” she added.

The Lady Falcons finished dead last in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament but Padda believes that with Cruz and Romero on board, Adams’s future looks brighter.

“We're working on it. Hopefully, next year, Season 81 (they get to play),” Padda said.
