THE NCAA is pushing through with its 96th season amid virus concerns.
"Definitely, we'll push through," said NCAA Management Committee (Mancom) chairman Fr. Vic Calvo, OP of hosts Letran on Tuesday's Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum.
Online events like chess, taekwondo, and poomsae are a lock for the upcoming season, while the Mancom is still trying to get the approval to stage basketball and volleyball competitions this year.
"For sure, at least dalawa o apat na hybrid and online competitions ang hinahanda ng NCAA," said Calvo, as the NCAA awaits the approval from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Department of Education (DepEd).
"We're waiting for the response kasi school-based kami. We wrote a letter three weeks ago. We know there's no face-to-face, so we have to agree on how far we can do this," he said.
"If we're not allowed, we'll do online. Di tayo nag-give up kasi NCAA embodies the Filipinos' resiliency and perseverance lalo na sa sports."
Calvo also shared his excitement on the staging of the new season under its new broadcast partner GMA.
"We have to be creative. Since the start of the lockdown, we've been meeting everyday, halos once a week and we're meeting regularly on how to do this. We're glad that nakakuha kami ng partner that pushed us to do the season," he said.
