TV5 assured an extensive coverage of this year’s biggest sports spectacle, the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro set from August 5 to 21.

Sports5 head Patricia Bermudez-Hizon bared during a press launch on Tuesday that they are committed to show about 16 hours of Olympic action on free TV through TV5 and Aksyon TV.

Pay TV provider Cignal will also provide Olympic action with three channels—Hyper/Hyper HD, Rio 1 Olympic channel, and Rio 2 Olympic channel—bringing the games from Rio De Janeiro 24/7.

Cignal TV head of channels Sienna Olaso said Hyper/Hyper HD will carry the basketball and volleyball games, Rio 1 will broadcast the athletics, aquatics, and racket sports, while Rio 2 will have the combat sports.

PLDT and Smart will also be the country’s official online and mobile broadcaster.

“It’s Rio coverage strengthens further its commitment to bring the best and most exciting sports event live to the sports-loving Pinoy audience,” said Bermudez-Hizon in the press conference attended by officials from the Philippine Olympic Committee and Olympic qualifiers Kirstie Elaine Alora of taekwondo and Ian Lariba of table tennis.

Bermudez-Hizon bared that Sports5 crews and talents will also be going to Rio De Janeiro to cover the Olympics straight from where the action is.

“One of our aims is to teach the values of Olympism to the Filipinos, and of course, positioning sports in the service of humanity,” said Bermudez-Hizon.

TV5 will hold the Road to Rio 20016 Olympic Games kick-off on April 29-30 at the Bonifacio High Street Activity Center in Taguig City.
