TV5 has acquired the rights to air the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympic Games as well as other International Olympic Committee properties.
Sports5 head Chot Reyes tweeted the development on Thursday. TV5 later made the deal official by making the announcement on its evening newscast.
Aside from the 2016 Olympics, Reyes said TV5 will also be broadcasting the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia from February 6 to 23, and the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China from August 16 to 28.
TV5 previously aired the London Olympics in 2012 through a partnership with Solar Sports, which had owned the Philippine broadcast rights of the Summer Games since the 2008 Beijing edition.
Michael Christian Martinez is the lone representative of the country in the Winter Olympics as he competes in the men’s figure skating event.
