ROSEGIE Ramos is officially the first weightlifter from the Philippines to punch a ticket to the Paris Olympics.

The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) confirmed Ramos’ place in the Olympics at the conclusion of her campaign at the IWF World Cup in Phuket, Thailand where she took first place in the women’s 49-kilogram Group B division.

Ramos has met the qualifying standards of making it to the Top 10 in the world in her category, and the first-place finish formalizes her entry in emphatic fashion. She was at No. 9 prior to the competition.

Other Philippine weightlifters including Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz are also set to formalize their entry in Paris during the World Cup.

Diaz will see action on Wednesday in the women’s 58kg class. She is ranked No. 8 in the Olympic Qualification Ranking (OQR) and well inside the Top 10 required to book a place in Paris.

John Ceniza is also expected to seal his place in Paris when he competes in the men’s 61kg category where he is ranked No. 6 in the OQR.
