LONDON -- Paul Brian Rosario shot himself in the foot with a 19 in the second session before coming up with a perfect 25 in the third for a 66-point total on the first day of qualifying of the London Olympics skeet shooting event at the Royal Artillery Barracks on Monday.
The 30-year-old Rosario went 22/25 in the first set but was shaky in the second before steadying himself in the day’s final session.
The messy second session proved costly, however, as he wound up well below the standings with a .880 shooting percentage against the leaders who are shooting over .960.
The competitors shoot two more sessions on Tuesday, with the top six entering the finals.
Reigning champion Vincent Hancock of the US had a flawless start of 25 and later came up with 24 and another 25 to lead the standings at 74.
Stefan Nilsson of Sweden shot 22-25-25 for a 72, which was matched by Anders Golding of Denmark after a 24-23-25.
