THIS early, Team Philippines is already laying down the road map for its 2028 Los Angeles Olympics campaign.
The organizing committee to the quadrennial showcase led by Philippine Olympic Committee president Bambol Tolentino and chef de mission Ricky Vargas held its maiden meeting on Tuesday and laid down the strategic plans for Team Philippines’ preparation and campaign in LA two years from now.

Planning and organizing for the country’s Olympic campaign ahead in time is understandable. The country’s next batch of Olympians will be hard-pressed to equal if not surpass the country’s best-ever showing in the Summer Games two years ago.
Gymnast Carlos Yulo scored a historic double gold for the Philippines during the 2024 Paris Games by topping the men’s vault and the floor exercise. The boxing pair of Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas also won a bronze medal each in the women’s 57kg and 50kg divisions to cap the most prolific Olympic team of the Philippines, which finished No. 37th overall in the final medal tally.
Yulo and hopefully, younger brother Eldrew, is again expected to banner the country’s campaign in Los Angeles.
Other key personnel in the Filipinos’ Olympic preparations were present during the meeting, including special assistant to the chef de mission Alfrancis Chua, Deputy CDMs Atty. Wharton Chan, Abet Dungo, and Sienna Olaso.
Also in attendance were PBA commissioner Willie Marcial, Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas Executive Director Erika Dy, MediaQuest executive Rissa Guilas, and Philippine Sports Commission executive director Atty. Guillermo Iroy.
