RIO DE JANEIRO — The flag of the Philippines was raised at the Athletes Village on Tuesday (Wednesday Manila time) in a ceremony formally welcoming the delegation to the Olympics.
The eight athletes who are already here for the Olympics as well as their coaches and members of the Philippine secretariat wore their barong during the ceremony which also welcomed other countries in Japan, Denmark, and Panama.

Philippine Olympic Committee first vice president Joey Romasanta, chef de mission of the Philippine team, also handed over a model of the iconic jeepney to an official of the Athletes Village as gift from the delegation.
A dance number was also performed during the flag raising ceremony where athletes and officials gamely participated.

The Olympic Games open on Friday.
