RYAN LOCHTE won the 400-meter Individual Medley as Michael Phelps finished fourth in the London Olympics on Saturday at the Aquatics Centre.
The American clocked four minutes and 5.18 seconds followed by Thiago Pereira of Brazil in 4:08.86 and Japan’s Kosuke Hagino in 4:08.94.
Phelps, winner of eight gold medals in the Beijing Games, timed 4:09.28.
Earlier, Phelps barely made it to the 400-meter IM final, qualifying eighth by clocking 4:13.33 seconds.
Lochte had qualified third-best in 4:12.35.
Yi bags first gold in 2012 Games
In shooting at the Royal Artillery Barracks, world No. 1 Yi Siling of China won the women’s 10-meter air rifle to bag the 2012 London Games’ first gold medal.
Yi scored 502.9 to beat Poland's Sylwia Bogacka, who came up with a 502.2 while Yu Dan of China placed third after shooting 501.5.
