SOCIAL MEDIA is flooded with memes and photos of Turkish sport shooter Yusuf Dikeç, due to his overall performances in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
While his rivals would compete wearing the most advance sci-fi-esque eyewear, Dikeç entered the tournament with only a pair of glasses. It may seem like a disadvantage, but the Turkish shooter secured a silver medal in the 10 meter air pistol mixed team event alongside teammate Şevval İlayda Tarhan, the first Olympic medal in Turkey's sport shooting history.
Indeed he has gain notoriety in social media for his nonchalant demeanor, but who exactly is Dikeç?
Dikeç is a sergeant in military school
Dikeç enrolled in Ankara's Military School of Gendarmerie back in 1994 where he became a corporal and saw service in Mardin. He likewise returned to the same academy in 1999, where he became a sergeant.
Eventually in 2001, he got invested in sport shooting, and went all the way to represent the military and national team.
A multi-awarded shooter
2006 was the year where Dikeç became a record holder, scoring 597 points in a 25 m center-fire pistol event in Rena, Norway.
And as years went by, his accolades increased. He made his name in the 10 m and 25 m pistol events and won gold medals in the ISSF World Championships, European Championships, World Cup, etc.
How many golds has he garnered across these events? As of today, Dikeç bagged 12 gold medals and 11 silver medals, which includes his recent Paris Olympics run.
Dikeç is a cat lover
On his Instagram page, Dikeç has a photo with his pet cat, which resonated well with the community. Given his love for his cat, be sure to not steal his beloved pet, unless if you want him to go full John Wick.
South Korea's Satoru Goju
But he wasn't the only one who drew headlines during the 2024 Olympics as South Korean female pistol shooter Kim Ye-ji has also lit up the scene, for winning the silver medal.
But unlike Dikeç, Kim had a more lucrative eye wear. All of a sudden, she became an internet sensation, with some comparing her to Jujutsu Kaisen's Satoru Gojo.
And there are a plethora of memes and photos centered on her.

But among all of the photos surfacing the internet, the one which highlighted her elephant stuff toy produced a significant motivation.
According to the official Olympic website, the stuff toy belonged to her daughter, which serves as her lucky charm in the event.
Is there a dresscode in sport shooting
Shooters can wear whatever they feel like for the event, hence why they can opt to use high-end visors or not.
In the event, competitors might deal with the glaring lights from the arena, hence why it is advisable to wear lenses that will protect them.
And because of the fluidity in dress code, expect more memes and internet sensations to blossom.
