RIO DE JANEIRO – Nestor Colonia dropped out of the weightlifting competitions of the XXXI Olympiad here after failing ti register a lift in the clean and jerk on Sunday (Monday, Manila time) at the Riocentro Pavilion 2.

Colonia wasn’t able to finish his campaign as he failed to lift 154 kg. on three occasions in the clean and jerk of the men’s 56kg. class.

The Zamboanga native was at seventh place after the snatch where he lifted 120 kilos, only to come up short in the end.

Seeing action in his first Olympiad, Colonia bowed out just a few hours after Hidilyn Diaz captured the country’s first silver medal in two decades in the women’s 53 kg. class.

Even after bagging the silver, the 25-year-old Diaz stayed on and was at backstage to help Colonia and coach Alfonsito Aldanete during the competition.

Long Qingquan of China won the gold after a combined lift of 307 kgs.
