MIKEE Cojuangco-Jaworski has been elected to the International Olympic Committee Executive Board.
The Filipina former equestrienne was elected along with Argentina’s Gerardo Werthein in the 136th session of the International Olympic Committee on Friday, its first-ever session held via videoconference.
Cojuangco-Jaworski gained IOC membership in 2013 at the 125th Session in Buenos Aires.
With Cojuangco-Jaworksi’s election, female representation on the IOC executive board has grown to 33.3 percent.
The two were elected as the terms of Sergey Bubka of Ukraine and Ser Miang Ng of Singapore end.
Cojuangco-Jawordki and Werthein’s terms off office will start at the end of the 136th IOC Session.
Ng was elected vice-president, along with John D. Coates of Australia.
With three new female members, the IOC proudly announced it has 39 women on board, at 37.5 percent of its membership compared to 21.3 percent in 2013.
“The Session has demonstrated the IOC’s commitment to promoting gender equality within its leadership,” the IOC said on olympic.org.
Maria de la Caridad Colon Ruenes of Cuba, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic of Croatia and Princess Reema Bandar Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia were elected members.
Battushig Batbold of Mongolia was also elected, along with President of World Athletics and 2012 London Olympics executive Sebastian Coe, elected to membership linked to a function within an Internatioal Federation.
The five new members raises the total number of IOC members to 104.
