RIO DE JANEIRO – Even athletes can’t help but be a fan once in a while.
Swimming great Michael Phelps and the US men’s basketball team top the list of personalities taekwondo jin Kirstie Alora is looking forward to see and meet in the XXXI Olympiad here.
Seeing action in her first Olympics, the 25-year-old Alora admitted wishing to personally meet the American swimmer who is hands down the most decorated Olympian of all time.
Alora would've been more thrilled if tennis superstar Roger Federer was around.
“Yun talaga ang mga idol ko, e,” said Alora, the last member of the 13-man Philippine team to see action on August 20.
Like any basketball-loving Filipino, the Filipina taekwondo bet is also looking forward to seeing in the flesh the celebrated all-NBA U.S. team led by Carmelo Anthony.
Asked who among the American cagers is his favorite, Alora was quick to mention Kevin Durant, only to sound a bit hesitant later.
“Ayoko na pala dun, lumipat ng Golden State, e OKC (Oklahoma Thunder) ako,” she said scratching her head.
But definitely, the opportunity to meet Durant is too good for Alora to pass up.
“Pero OK lang, Durant pa rin ako,” she said with a smile.
