LUIS Gabriel Moreno is dedicating his bid to qualify for the 2016 Olympics to his grandfather, the late German Moreno.
The Youth Olympian said he will still vie for a berth in the Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro despite the recent passing of his grandfather more popularly known as ‘Kuya Germs.’
After winning the gold in the mixed team event in the 2014 Youth Olympic Games, Moreno is now setting his sights on Rio.
“This time, it’s going to be different. I’ll not be doing it just for me and for the country. This time, I’ll be doing it for papa and for the country,” said Moreno, who is also known as Gab, in an interview over DZSR Sports Radio 918.
“It’s also his dream for me to be in the Olympics,” he added.
Despite grieving over the loss of his grandfather, the younger Moreno said he will continue to pursue the Olympic bid as he is set to compete in the 2016 Archery World Cup Stage in Antalya, Turkey on June 13-18.
“I’ve already started training. But when summer comes, it will be more concentrated since I’ll be having a longer break because I’m entering college already,” said Moreno, who is being coached by a Korean.
