IN possibly his last run in the Olympics, LeBron James will be front and center of the U.S. delegation.
The Los Angeles Lakers star was picked by his fellow Olympians as the male flagbearer for Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony which airs in the wee-hours of Saturday morning here in the Philippines.
By being the flagbearer of the delegation, the 39-year-old became just the first male basketball player to carry the flag for the United States.
Women’s basketball stars Dawn Staley and Sue Bird were the flagbearers in the 2004 Athens Games and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics respectively.
The four-time NBA champion and the league’s all-time scoring record holder will be playing in the Olympics for the fourth time and is gunning for his third Olympic gold medal.
He was a part of that disastrous 2004 team that finished with bronze, but he bounced back as, together with Kobe Bryant, he led Team USA’s “Redeem Team” in China.
He last played in London where he won the gold medal again before skipping the Rio and Tokyo games respectively.
Now James looks to take one more as he leads an ultra-talented Team USA squad looking to prove that they’re still on top of the world amid the continuous rise of powerhouse squads all over the globe.
