JOHN Cabang Tolentino and Lauren Hoffman were relegated to the repechage following the result of their respective events in the 2024 Paris Olympics athletics competitions at the Stade De Paris.
Cabang Tolentino placed sixth in Heat 1 of the men’s 110m hurdles with a time of 13.66 seconds, while Hoffman finished eighth in Heat 4 of the women’s 400m hurdles at 57.84 seconds.

Overall, Cabang Tolentino finished No. 32 among 39 hurdlers who finished the race, topped by Tokyo silver medalist Grant Holloway of the US with his time of 13.01 seconds.
Hoffman ended up at 37th out of 39 competitors in the heats topped by Femke Bol of Netherlands with a clocking of 53.38 seconds.
The two Philippine hurdlers missed on an outright semifinal spot that goes with the top three finishers in each of the five heats, and the next three fastest times in the preliminaries.
But Cabang Tolentino and Hoffman still have a shot at progressing in the repechage on Tuesday where six more semifinal spots are at stake, under the new Olympic rules.
Duo fall short of PH records
Cabang Tolentino fell 0.29 seconds short of the Philippine record he himself set during the National Open last May in Pasig City.
Hoffman’s time was also well off the 56.39-second national record she also set during the National Open.
