JOANIE Delgaco finished fifth in the Semifinal C/D in her penultimate regatta of the 2024 Paris Olympics women’s single sculls at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium.
The first-ever Filipina Olympic rower clocked eight minutes, 0.18 seconds to move into the Final D, where at stake are the placings from 19th to 24th spots in the event.
The Iriga City native was slower than her previous times where she clocked 7:55.00 in the repechage, her fastest output in this Olympic Games. She also clocked 7:56.26 in her first race, and 7:58:30 in the quarterfinals.
Delgaco still determined to make more history
Delgaco has a shot of topping the Final D scheduled on Friday, 10:30 a.m. Paris time (4:30 p.m. Manila time) based on the clocking, as she will enter the race with the second-best time.
Alejandra Alonso Alderete of Paraguay has the best time entering the Final D with 7:56.50.
Also competing in the Final D are Elis Ozbay of Turkey, Fatemeh Mojallaltopraghghale of Iran, Adriana Sanguineti of Peru, and Pham Thi Hue of Vietnam, the 26-year-old Delgaco's perennial opponent in the Southeast Asian Games.
