LAUREN Hoffman and John Cabang-Tolentino will join EJ Obiena in Paris after officially clinching a spot in the Olympics.
Hoffman and Cabang-Tolentino will compete in the women’s 400m hurdles and men’s 110m hurdles, respectively, as confirmed by World Athletics and Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association.
Hoffman was one of 40 athletes who made it to Paris through the “Qualified By World Rankings” tier upon ranking 41st.
Cabang-Tolentino also clinched the Olympic ticket through the “Qualified By World Rankings” category with his No. 37 ranking.
With Hoffman and Cabang-Tolentino’s entry, the Philippines now has 22 athletes in the Paris Olympics to be held from July 26 to August 11.
Obiena, meanwhile, had already booked a spot in the Olympics through the “Qualified by Entry Standard” category when he hit 6.00 last August 2023 in Budapest.
Olympians Hoffman and Cabang-Tolentino
The 25-year-old Hoffman began competing for the Philippines in October 2023 after previously representing the US. She finished fifth in the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, and holds the Philippine record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.39 seconds.
The 22-year-old Cabang-Tolentino finished fourth in his event the Asian Games and Asian Championships in 2023.
