THE incentives keep coming for Hidilyn Diaz as the Rio Olympics silver medalist received more than P500,000 from the Senate on Monday.

According to a Senate press release, Senate President Aquilino ‘Koko’ Pimentel lauded the Philippine sports heroine who won silver in the women's 53 kg weightlifting category in Rio and noted that they have given turned over the additional cash incentives to Diaz.

“She is the toast of the country, a courageous girl who trained hard to pursue a dream. Her never-say-die spirit should inspire us to aim higher. Her achievement is an example of the courage and indomitable will of the Filipino athlete,” said Pimentel of Diaz, the first Filipina to win an Olympic medal.

After giving the country its first Olympic medal in 20 years, Diaz has been on the receiving end from an outpour of honor, praise and cash rewards.

Diaz received P5 million from government by virtue of the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act, as well as an additional P2 million from President Rodrigo Duterte.
