THE 62-fight winning streak of Ukrainian Oleksandr Khyzhniak came to a shocking end Saturday after being knocked out by Hebert Sousa of Brazil in the third round of their men’s middleweight final in the Tokyo Olympics.
Khyzhniak was tagged with a perfect left hook by Sousa, with the referee quickly stopping the fight after the Ukrainian struggled to get up on his feet.
Sousa was trailing in three of the judges’ scorecards entering the final round before pulling off the golden upset over the highly-favored Ukrainian.
Prior to the loss, Khyzhniak defeated Filipino fighter Eumir Marcial via split decision in an action packed semifinals bout to extend his winning streak that dated back to 2016.
