A RENOWNED gymnastics publication is projecting Carlos Yulo to win a gold and a silver in the Paris Olympics.
The International Gymnast (IG) Magazine selected Yulo to capture the title in the floor exercise, his pet apparatus, and a second-place finish in the vault.
The publication’s staff also predicted Israel’s Artem Dolgopyat to stand in the way of Yulo’s bid to win gold in the two apparatuses especially in the floor where he is the reigning gold medalist.
“Defending champion Artem Dolgopyat from Israel has the difficulty and the consistency; hence, his presence on the podium at most major competitions. If Carlos Yulo of the Philippines manages to be consistent, he could easily top the field on floor,” wrote the publication.
Armenia’s Artur Davtyan was picked by International Gymnast Magazine to win the vault gold, but Yulo has a shot to pull surprises.
Aside from 2019 where he ruled the floor exercise, Yulo was also a world champion in vault in 2021.
“Adem Asil of Turkey, Carlos Yulo of the Philippines and Wataru Tanigawa all can perform Ri II vaults (front handspring front double piked with a half twist) and a strong landing on this vault can propel them straight to the podium,” wrote the publication.
IG is also not counting Yulo out in the parallel bars, the apparatus where he claimed the silver medal in the world championships in 2021.
“Other gymnasts with medal potential include Brody Malone (USA), Xiao Ruoteng (CHN), Oleg Verniaiev (UKR), Carlos Yulo (PHI) and Japan’s Kaya Kazuma, Oka Shinnosuke and Sugino Takaaki,” the publication also wrote.
