    Olympic bid stalls for Eumir Marcial with loss by unanimous decision to Uzbek foe

    EUMIR Felix Marcial lost via unanimous decision to Uzbekistan's Shakhram Giyasov, stalling his bid to reach the Rio de Janeiro Olympics on Thursday in the Asia/Oceania Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Qian’an, China.

    Marcial was dominated by the Uzbek fighter in the semifinals of their welterweight bout, and the former world junior champion will have to fight in a box-off for the last Olympic berth in th welterweight class for Asia/Oceania.

    All three judges scored the bout, 30-27, for Giyasov.

    Marcial, the welterweight champion of the 2015 Southeast Asian Games, will take on Tuvshinbat Byamba of Mongolia in the box-off.

    Byamba lost to Thailand’s Saylom Ardee via unanimous decision in the other semifinal.

    Mario Fernandez will also go for an Olympic slot via the box-off following his defeat against a Thai fighter in the semifinals of the bantamweight class. Fernandez faces Kazakhstan’s Kairat Yeraliyev for the ticket to Rio.
