THERE is a certain warmth to being Filipino, and for Tallulah Proulx that travels even to the coldest slopes.
She didn’t just glide down the icy tracks at the 2026 Winter Olympics, she carried history with her.
At just 17, she became the Philippines’ first female alpine skier at the Winter Games. She didn’t come home with a medal, finishing 50th, but she showed the world what Filipina courage and determination look like.

The impact of her achievement became real after the Games. In Colorado, a 10-year-old Filipina approached her.
"This little girl went to message me asked me if she can practice with me, I said 'of course' then she came running to me all full of hope telling me it's her dream to become the first Filipina halfpipe skier in the Games as well," she said.
Proulx signed her helmet and shared a few moments practicing together. Then she realized something bigger.
“Seeing the impact I had… I saw myself in her,” she told SPIN.ph during the 2026 All-Women Sports Awards last March 20. “Representation is really everything.”

Being a Filipina, Proulx says, isn’t about where you’re born. It’s about the spirit of showing up, working hard, and making space for others —especially in places no other Filipino has ever thought of owning.
Every turn on the slopes is more than a race. It is proof that trailblazers inspire, that visibility matters, and that courage travels far.
“Ever since I was young I was never afraid of dreaming big, but I didn’t expect being such a trailblazer, but I’m proud of how I took the strides and be that first filipino in the winter Olympics,” she reflected.
“What stood out for me is our kindness and determination, it's never hard for Filipinos to have friends, we have that warmth in us. And determination, we have to work twice as hard to get half as far, and any step forward is something.”
Proulx’s feat is a celebration of Filipina grit, warmth, and the power of representation and proof that breaking barriers isn’t just personal victory, it’s a path for the next generation to follow.
