The agonizing wait, and the suspense, is set to end next week for weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz.
Barely two months before the London Olympics, Diaz has yet to be confirmed for the Games. But the International Weightlifting Federation is expected to release the official line-up for the Olympics after the Oceania qualifying event, which runs until Saturday.
It has been a month and a half since Diaz last saw action in the Asian Championships where she lifted 217 kg, a weight that netted no medal or outright entry into the Olympics.
But the Philippine Weightlifting Federation believes it is enough to get the 21-year-old Filipina to the London line-up, but it would still depend on the performance of athletes from other countries.
“They said that they will release the official line-up after the final Olympic qualifying event in Oceania which ends tomorrow (Saturday) so we expect them to release the final list anytime soon,” said Philippine Weightlifting Federation president Monico Puentevella.
Diaz was a wild card entry in the 2008 Beijing Olympics where she finished 11th out of 12 competitors.
