CARLOS Yulo boosted his chance for redemption in the floor exercise with a score of 14.766 in the men’s qualification of the 2024 Paris Olympics men’s artistic gymnastics competition at the Bercy Arena.
Yulo put on a near-perfect routine in his specialty apparatus, taking the provisionary second spot with still several more gymnasts competing.
Yulo is in line for a finals appearance in the floor exercise following a dismal performance in Tokyo where he missed the medal round in the same event he won the world title in 2019.
Three years ago, Yulo submitted a dismal performance, scoring only 13.566 to finish at 47th in the floor exercise qualification.
Yulo did better this year.
After concluding his routine, Yulo was visibly happy with his performance, pumping his fist and raising two of his fingers in the air.
Barring any superb performances from the other gymnasts, Yulo will be competing in the floor exercise final set on August 3.
His score was even better than reigning champion Artem Dolgopyat of Israel, who scored 14.466 in the qualification.
