CARLOS Yulo and Team Philippines which competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics will be back in the country on August 13 where they are expected to arrive with a heroes’ welcome.
Yulo leads the delegation that will come back to Manila following a successful campaign in the Olympics after the Filipino gymnast took home two gold medals in ruling the floor exercise and vault.
The 24-year-old Yulo will also be joined by other members of the Philippine delegation that also includes
Boxers Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas, who also claimed bronze medals for the nation in the Olympics.
Yulo though is expected to gain most of the attention during the athletes’ arrival to Manila following his historic feat where he became the first male to win a gold medal, and the first athlete to win multiple golds for the Philippines in the Olympics.
“Sabay sabay po kaming uuwi ng mga athletes sa 13,” said Yulo in an interview with Frontline Pilipinas.
Yulo said activities are already lined-up for his arrival to the country where he is also expected to take a much-needed break following a lengthy training in preparation for the Olympics.
A heroes’ parade is also being scheduled, according to Yulo.
“Ngayon ko lang nalaman na may heroes’ parade. ‘Yung mga susunod po, kailangan ko mag-ask and may mga taong tutulong at maghahandle nito,” said Yulo.
Petecio and Villegas will also take home the bronze medal after reaching the semifinals of the women’s 57kg and 51kg divisions. They will be receiving their medals during the victory ceremony in the coming days as boxing comes to a close at Roland Garros.
Golfers Bianca Pagdanganan and Dottie Ardina, and weightlifter Vanessa Sarno are still in action in the coming days.
