IT’S all systems go for the four Asian taekwondo competitions in Manila from April 16 to 20 including the much-awaited Asian Qualification Tournament for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Pasay.
Competition manager Rocky Samson of the Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA) said the country will play host to the 4th Asian Taekwondo Poomsae Championship and the 2nd Asian Para Taekwondo Championship on April 18, and the 22nd Asian Taekwondo Championship on April 19 to 20.
But the highlight will be the Olympic qualifying tournament set to be held April 16 to 17 where spots to the Rio Olympics will be up for grabs among 97 participants from 35 countries entered.
Samuel Morrison (men’s -80kg), Kristopher Uy (men’s +80kg), Pauline Lopez (women’s -57kg), and Kirstie Elaine Alora (women’s +67kg) will be vying for the two berths for Rio in their respective category.
The organizing committee decided to hold the competition in the Grand Ballroom of the Marriott Hotel which fits competition standards.
“We want to hold this here out of convenience. It is very convenient to stay in one place and the hotel is just around the vicinity. We also want to showcase the beauty of the Philippines to our foreign delegates,” said Samson.
