RIO DE JANEIRO — Fil-Japanese judoka Kodo Nakano lost in his Olympic debut when he was beaten by Matteo Marconcini of Italy via ippon in the first round of the men’s -81 kg division at the Carioca Arena 2.
Nakano, a last-minute call-up for the Games, was sent crashing out of the competition as his bid ended at one minute, 19 seconds into the match.
“Lakas ng power ng Italy,” said the Tokyo-based Nakano in halting Tagalog.
Nakano bared he prepared for the Olympics for only week after being a late entry of the Philippines when an Iranian judoka pulled out days before the start of the competition.
