Gallent named Beermen head coach
JORGE Gallent calls the shots for San Miguel Beer starting in the Governors’ Cup after a solid run in the Commissioner’s Cup as interim head coach.
The Beermen won six consecutive games with Gallent in charge, including two in the quarterfinals against Converge, before Leo Austria returned in Game Two of the semifinals against Bay Area.
Gallent had a stint as B-Meg head coach from 2010 to 2011.
Leo Austria now SMB consultant
LEO Austria is taking a break from coaching but remains with San Miguel as a consultant.
San Miguel team manager Gee Abanilla confirmed the development, saying Austria told management his plan to take a leave from coaching.
Austria steered the Beermen to nine championships in eight years, including the 2022 Philippine Cup.
All set for Governors’ Cup
The Governors’ Cup tips off on Sunday with Meralco taking on Rain or Shine in the opening game at 4:40 p.m. at the Philsports Arena.
Converge battles NorthPort at 6:30 p.m.
Blackwater plays NLEX at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum, while TNT will face Phoenix at 5:45.
